About Us

We are a group of Artarmon residents concerned with Willoughby City Council Draft LEP proposals to rezone the Soldier Streets in West Artarmon and the Sailor Streets in East Artarmon to R3 medium density housing. The intention of the proposal is to remodel two areas of majority single storey dwellings into four storey apartment blocks, changing the character of the affected communities forever.

We understand that planning for population growth is a proper part of Council's activities and share the desire for Artarmon to meet the future in a sustainable manner. However, we call on Council to make serious consideration of a number of much more suitable alternatives to achieving these goals, the primary being the rezoning of the George Place light industrial area into R4 mixed residential and office use. We believe this move will contribute substantially to attaining Willoughby City population growth targets while minimising impact on established residential neighborhoods.
