NSW Government Planning Review: Channel 9 Site

Greetings all,

I spoke to Council's Steven Head today in case there was anything afoot on the Channel 9 issue and the situation remains the same, i.e. nothing heard from Channel 9 in the past several months. What will be of interest to all with a stake in the Channel 9 redevelopment is that, in accordance with one of their pre-election promises, the NSW government is conducting a review of the planning laws and regulations and will hold a community consultation meeting this Thursday, 13th October at the Club Willoughby (used to be the Willoughby Legions Club) at 26 Crabbes Ave, Willoughby .

There will be two sessions, 3.00 to 5.00pm and 6.00 to 7.30pm. Both are open to the public and no reservation is required.

I hope some of you will come along and hopefully we'll be able to put some questions re Channel 9 to the gov't representatives. I think a good aim for questions would be to let the government know that the community would much prefer to have Council as the consenting authority, rather than the State Planning people.

For further information please go to http://planningreview.nsw.gov.au/

I'd be pleased to meet those of you who do decide to attend, just to put faces to names, and vice versa for you. To recognise me, I don't have much hair left, have a beard and will be wearing a red sweater and will attend the later session.

Hope to see you there.

Kind regards,

Bob Taffel

Write-up of the Save Artarmon campaign

One thing about starting up a campaign such as SaveArtarmon is knowing what worked and what didn't. Now the dust has settled, I thought it would be a good idea to write up a post-mortem of what we did and how it worked, in case anyone should need to do similar again in future.

Please have a read here: http://blog.ivanlogan.com/2011/04/saving-artarmon/

Also, on an unrelated note, I'm about to embark on an epic trip from here to Darwin via the back roads to raise money for the Cancer Council. If you would like to donate, please have a look at our team page: http://www.everydayhero.com.au/yorkshire_puddings or consider donating a tenner for The Ruster Bumper Puzzle Book, a collection of 100 word and number puzzles including Target and Sudoku.

Many thanks,
Ivan

Artarmon Progress Association AGM and Christmas Celebration

The APA Committee would like to invite you to attend the Annual General Meeting of the APA and Christmas Celebration on:

TUESDAY 23 NOVEMBER at 8pm in the Artarmon Library, Elizabeth Street, Artarmon

Bulletin no. 14

Dear Residents

I am happy to report that after months of work from both yourselves and your committee Willoughby City Council has determined that the Sailor and Soldier Streets will continued to be zoned R2. In addition, Raleigh St will continue to retain its conservation status. This is a wonderful result and provides local residents with the outcome that they wanted. This was indicated by the petition that was presented to WCC at an earlier meeting.

I would like to thank WCC Councillors for their decision and to acknowledge the enormous work of WCC staff in providing advice to residents throughout the Draft LEP process.

Importantly we will be having a Celebration at the Artarmon Bowling Club on December 3 commencing at 7:00pm. Keep this date free!

Bulletin no. 13

This is a quick bulletin to remind you all that the Council Special Meeting to vote on the Officers' recommendations on the submissions and on the draft LEP is at 6.30pm on Wednesday 3rd November at Council Chambers and that the public is welcome to attend.

While the public will not have a speaking part in the meeting, this is the crucial point where the verdicts on the Draft LEP are put before Council and the results of many months of campaigning are decided. We would ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO ATTEND!

Also, we have finally managed to collate and upload the entire petition to the website. Please follow this link to see just how many people actually cared about the development of the Artarmon local area!

Best regards,

Clarification on next Council Meeting

To clarify: the Council open forum will be on Wednesday 20th October at 6pm, not 6.30pm.

Hope to see you there!

Last Chance to Have Your Say!

Open Forum at 6pm, on Wednesday 20th October 2010

Council Chambers, Level 6, 31 Victor Street

The report to Council on submissions received during the exhibition of the Draft Willoughby Local Environmental Plan 2009, including submissions and reviews, is now available at http://www.willoughby.nsw.gov.au/Draft-Willoughby-Local-Environmental-Pl...

The report recommends zoning Sites 7 & 8 (the Sailor and Soldier Streets) as R2, (replacing the original recommendation of R3 medium density that we and our Artarmon community have so strongly opposed), on the basis of current economic unviability for that type of development.

However, the report still recommends the excision of Federation homes in Raleigh and Elizabeth Streets from the Conservation Area, on the basis that “Neighbourhoods are not static and over time competing pressures arise to warrant reconsideration of housing needs. Council’s policy......... is to undertake systematic reviews and assessment of conservation areas and heritage items.”

In other words, there is no guarantee Council will not further encroach upon the Artarmon Conservation Area boundaries, for rezoning for apartments in the future.

Have your say at the Public Forum concerning residential and heritage matters on 20 October 2010 at 6pm by registering to speak for a maximum of 3 minutes before close of business this Friday 15 October. To register, you need to phone Michelle Murphy tel 9777 7675 between 9.30am and 5.00pm (email registrations are not allowed).

Register to speak at the meeting on 20th October and show your support for The Artarmon Residents Petition!
